HOME!

The doctor on last night let me go home early :) So I arrived home at about 2.15am. Made tarawih, ate then went to bed. Layth was sleeping in Hidayah's room.

In the morning, Layth jumped on the bed and said "Ummi dah balik!!". Hugs and kisses. =) Then he started reading me a book. I told him it's school day today and he had some tears in his eyes. He said "Nak ikut Ummi". Had to convince/coerce him by promising him a visit to the toy library and taking the train tomorrow. Sent him to kinder. He didn't want to let go of my hand for a while. Then his teacher said "We're gonna feed the worms, do you want to follow us Layth?". Layth shouted "Worms!" and ran away with them without a glance back. Hahaha. Kelakar la Layth nih.

Don't think I'll be getting Raya off. Many of the doctors there are Muslim; obviously everyone wants to not work on Eid.
Oh yes I haven't talked about the other doctors there have I.

In Emergency, there are about 10 other doctors who work there (at different times, not altogether!). Check out their names: Khalid, Mina, Isam, Firdaus, Anjum, Amir, Awad, Richie, Umesh and Liton. 7 out of them are Muslim. Not sure if everyone is practising. Some of them ate during the day so I'm not so sure. They're all IMG = international medical graduates. Meaning, they did their medical training overseas so they have to take a special exam to be able to work or train in Australia.

Most of these guys are not young. Some of them were already consultants/specialists in their country. Khalid was a radiologist. Anjum a paediatrician. Awad an orthopaedic surgeon. Isam a physician. But here in Australia, they are the level of residents/HMO/junior doctors. Next year, my pay will be equal to theirs. Most of them are quite depressed. I can't imagine. Think of an experienced specialist who you know and imagine they have to go back down to my level. It's quite degrading.

It's my opinion that Australia is really exploiting these IMG. They get expertise without having to pay for consultant level fees. Imagine a consultant earns $75-120 per hour that they work. Imagine just paying a third or quarter of that amount for the same thing. And they make the exam extremely difficult to pass so that these people have to stay working as HMO instead of going up the medical food chain. Khalid said his PROFESSOR of radiology in Egypt had to take the exam here 6 times yet still did not pass. Professor!!

They are all really nice and helpful. Because of their experience I'm glad they are around. No local wants to come and work in Warragul (or most rural places). So they need these foreign doctors to fill the spots. And borrow doctors from other hospitals like Frankston & Monash.

Yesterday there was a patient asking for the morning after pill. (Please google if you don't know what that is). Anyways, the nurse was regaling us with a funny story about an IMG a few years back who saw 2 girls who wanted the morning after pill. His name was Muhammad. Anyhoo, Muhammad wasn't familiar with this presenting problem.

He asked the nurse "What do we call these kind of girls in Australia?". The nurse said "Oh, they're skanks" (Aust slang for slut). When Muhammad went to see the girls to give them explanation about the pill, he started off calmly and nonjudgmentally, with "You know, you two girls are skanks".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
