1. Abu Hurayrah (r) narrates a hadiths in which the Prophet (s) states that death is the destroyer of desires. This can be taken in two different ways, what are they?

Allah's Messenger said: "Frequent your rememberance of the remover (destroyer) of delights which is death"
1. Death destroyes delights by cutting the person off from feeling any more delights of the world
2. When remembering death, it destroys (within yourself) the desire for worldly things

2. Give 4 reasons why it is impermissible to hope for death in times of fitnah. Does this apply to all types of fitnah?
1. The reward gained from being subjected to a trial is attached to the sabr (patience). Since hoping for death is not part of sabr, then the person will get no reward for having been tested
2. It goes against qadr
3. It is a cowardly act
4. It is cutting off the link of opportunity for doing more good deeds (if one dies early)

If fitnah/trial is in religion, then it is permissible to ask for death.

3. The hadiths narrated by Buraidah (r) in which the Prophet (s) states that the believer dies while his forehead is sweating has been interpreted in two different ways. What are they?
2 interpretations:
1. The believer suffers at the time of death. When the Prophet was dying he mentioned "La ilaha illaLlah verily the pangs of death are severe". Therefore a good sign of death is when the pangs of death (sakaratul maut) is severe enough to cause sweat on the brow as Allah is wiping away that person's sins
2. The believer's pangs of death is merely sweat on the brow and is less severe than those of the disbelievers.

4. If a man had the intention to become a Muslim but died before uttering the sahadah, how do we carry out his burial?
Well done zan! We bury him as a non Muslim as we can only judge people outwardly. He had not made shahadah therefore he is not a Muslim in this world. But whatever his fate is is with Allah. Burying him as a non Muslim would not effect his fate as Allah had written.

5. What is the proof for the majority of scholars who agree that the reward gained by the recitation of the Quran reaches the deceased?
Justifications- hajj, umrah, fasting, sadaqah are all acts of ibadah that is recommended to be done on behalf of the deceased. reciting the Quran is an act of ibadah too so why can't it be done?
it just so happened that the sahabi did not specifically ask the Prophet SAW about reciting the Quran for the dead as they had asked him with regards to fasting, sadaqah etc.

It is best to stick to deeds that scholars are unanimous about whether the reward reaches the deceased e.g. giving charity using the deceased's money/under his/her name.

6. Name two scholars that disagree with this and their proofs.
Imam Shafie and Imam Malik disagree that reciting the Quran for the deceased will cause him to reap the reward while in the grave. Their proof is the verse in the Quran "a person only gains what he earns by himself".

7. Which ahadiths indicates that the Ruh has a form?

8. Is it permissible to view the face of the deceased and kiss them? What is the proof for this?
Yes. As Zan & Lollies answered! :D

9. If the wisdom behind performing ghusl on the deceased is to cleanse them, what rulings would apply?
If the reason we make ghusl is to cleanse them, then if the person is clean then there is no need to make ghusl for them.
If the reason we make ghusl is purely because as an act of ibadah/ritual, then if there is not enough water, we can perform tayammum on the deceased.
The wisdom behind ghusl is a little bit of both inshaAllah.

10. If a person died during the state of Ihram and did not complete his hajj, is there a need
for someone else to perform hajj on the deceased’s behalf?
There is no need for anyone to perform hajj for him. He is in the state of ihram until the Day of Judgement. He will be resurrected in the state of making talbiyah. Allahu akbar. A person who died in the state of ihram would be buried in his ihram cloths, not be perfumed, head not covered.

11. Is it sufficient to do ghusl on the deceased only once?
Yes it is obligatory to do ghusl only once. Can make 3 or 5 times if necessary (end with witr number)

12. How shrouds are recommended for the male and for the female?
3 for men, 5 for women - well done lollies on this one

oops forgot to answer question 7.

hadith:
Umm Salama narrated that Allah's Messenger came into Abu Salama when he died. His eyes were fixed open. Closing them, the Messenger said: "When the soul is taken, the eyes follow it"
(Muslim)
This is proof that the ruh has a jisim/form.
