alamak this is the hardest. At least yg lain tu i pernah dengar sana sini. these questions, I err tak tau. try yg tau ajele.

btw, i tak jadik pindah (yet). the landlord mintak defer. huwaaa. will prolly blog insya Allah

1. the place to make sujud

2. i know the story. but this particular hadith. serious tak tau what is it used for? Errr jangan nak hukum orang selagi ketua tak buat decision? ok before i melalut i kasi you jawablah.

3. semua tak tau. yang i tau is masjid should not be decorated overly. Sayidinna Umar r.a. was strict even about the colours used in the masjid. Not to use bright colours as not to distract people making ibadah.
e. Boleh tidur kat masjid.
g. dance? err no cannot dance.
j. can as long as not wasteful. At least over here they put on the bukhoor.

4. Upon entering tha masjid one should enter with right food. Recite the du'a. If they jamaah is not prayinng jamah yet proceed to do your tahyatul masjid.

1. Definition of a masjid- linguistically - place of sujud/prayer (sujud is sometimes used as the synonym of salah)
Technically- place speficied for salah on a land free of individual ownership and returned to Allah as His Right (waqaf land) where 5 daily prayers and the Jumuah are performed.
Why the need for technical definition? So we are sure that a certain place is a masjid and therefore implement all the rulings (and reap rewards) associated with a masjid.

2.What is this hadith used as proof for/what are the lessons from the following hadith:
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Propher SAW sent an expedition of horsemen who came back with a man*, then they tied him to one of the pillars in the masjid. (Muttaffaqun 'alaih)
*the man was a mushrik; name Thumamah bin Uthal

The subsequent story was that Thumamah later embraced Islam after seeing the goings on in the masjid.

Proofs gained from this hadith:
1. Mushriks/disbelievers are allowed in the masjid (except the Haramayn but that is from another hadith)
2. The masjid can be used as a detention centre
3. The masjid was the centre of activity for Muslims at the time (why not now?), Thumamah was able to observe the interactions between the Muslims that caused him to fall in love with Islam.

3. State if the following are permissible or not:
a- making lost and found announcements in the masjid (e.g. "Who has found a black watch?" etc)
NOT PERMISSIBLE
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah's Messenger said Whoever hears a man crying out in the masjid about something he has lost, he should say "May Allah not restore it to you!" for the masjid was not built for this. (Muslim)

b- hanging promotional posters of an Islamic bookshop on the walls of the masjid
c- answering a phone call in an area of the masjid where you buy/sell something from the person on the other end of the phone
NOT PERMISSIBLE
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah's Messenger SAW said "If you see someone buying or selling inside the masjid, say "May Allah not make your trading profitable!". (An-Nasai, At-Tirmidzi)
Therefore even ADVERTISEMENTS are not allowed in the masjid. Even if you are wearing a Tshirt with a logo on it of YOUR company.

d- reserving a spot for yourself in the masjid
NOT ALLOWED. Except if you had came early, gotten a spot then broke your wudhu' and had to go out again.
Can't find the dalil in my notes hehehe (bad notes)

e- sleeping in the masjid
PERMISSIBLE
Narrated Aishah: On the day of Khandaq, Sa'd (bin Muadh) was injured and Allah's Messenger pitched a tent for him in the masjid to visit him at a close distance. (Muttafaqun alaih)
Therefore, also permissible to erect a tent in the masjid and to nurse sick people in the masjid.

f- having people sing nasheed or recite poetry in the masjid
g- having people dance in the masjid
PERMISSIBLE
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Umar came upon Hassan (bin Thabit) while reciting poetry in the masjid and looked at him sternly. Then Hassan said "I used to recite poetry inside it (the masjid) in the presence of one more pious than you (i.e. Rasulullah). (Muttafaqun alaih).

Hassan bin Thabit was the poet of Rasulullah. He used to recite poems of great significance in response to satirical poetry by the muhsrikin. Rasulullah always praised his poetry by saying "Jibril helps you". Therefore, only good moral and elevated poetry can be recited in the masjid.

Narrated Aisha "I saw Allah's Messenger at the door of my house screening me while I watched some Abyssinians who were playing in the masjid" (Muttafaqun alaih)
They were playing and dancing war games, therefore dancing is allowed if they are helpful for jihad and help to increase feeling of jihad.

h- having calligraphy in the masjid
DISLIKED

Narrated Anas: Aishah had a qiram (soft piece of cloth with colours) with which she had screened one side of her house. The Prophet said "Take away this qiram of yours, for its pictures are still displayed in front of me (in my mind) during my prayer (i.e distracting). (AlBukhari)
Therefore if something might be distracting in prayer, it must be removed; even if it is calligraphy of the Quran, a colourful sajadah or other decorations.

i- having chandeliers and adornments in the masjid
NOT PERMISSIBLE

Narrated Anas: Allah's Messenger said "THe Hour will not come until people boast to each other with the construction and decoration of masjids (Reported by The Five)
Also not allowed to name a masjid after oneself/other living people as this is ba'eed min ikhlas (removed from ikhlas).

Narrated Ibn Abbas: Allah's Messenger said: I was not commanded to build beautified masjids" (Abu Dawud, Ibn Hibban)
This means that it is forbidden to making designs and ornaments in masjids. It was the Jewish custom.

j- putting perfume all over the masjid
RECOMMENDED

Narrated Aishah: Allah's Messenger ordered that the masjids be built in residential areas and that it be cleaned and perfumed. (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidzi)

Manners of entering the masjid- as Lollies answered :D

Other issues learnt in this chapter
1. The Prophet SAW prayed that ALlah curse the Jews and Christians because they made the graves of their prophets into masjids (place of prayer). This is shirk.

2. Other reason to keep masjid perfumed is because the angels are affected by what humans are affected e.g. bad smell. They will not come near a smelly place. This is why we should keep our masjid, home and ourself clean and nice smelling. Avoid smelly foods and smoking.

3. The implementation of hudud punishments (eg cutting the hand of a thief) cannot be carried out in the masjid. Neither mediation for disputes.

4. Spitting is not allowed in the masjid. It is sinful.

5. Extravagance is not allowed in the building of masjid but this does not mean that we should use poor quality materials. We should use the best quality material within our means.
