Did you know...

Random facts from Bulugh al-Maram studies (Kitab Al-Janaza)

Did you know..

1. that it's unbecoming to call deceased "Almarhum". Because it means literally that the person is already "blessed" by Allah whereas we should say "Rahimahullah" (May Allah bless him) or "Rahimahallah" (May Allah bless her) because whether a person is blessed or not is Allah's knowledge.
side note: Allahyarham/Allahyarhamah used in Malay society is grammatically incorrect especially the latter.

2. that Fatimah bint Rasulullah had written in her will that her husband should give her the janaza ghusl. Therefore it's permissible for the husband to bathe the deceased wife and vice versa. (All except Hanafi mazhab agree with this permissibility)

3. that there are lots of angels around when a person dies. Therefore we must not wail or lament or curse ourselves as the angels will say Ameen. Instead, use this time to make du'a for the deceased and for ourselves.

4. that Rasulullah prayed solatul janaza for all Muslims except 2 kinds: those who stole the war booty and those who committed suicide. In the beginning of Islam, he even did not pray solatul janaza for people who were in debt until the debt was settled. Later when the Muslims were prosperous, the deceased's debts were paid by Baitul Mal.

5. that Rasulullah prayed salatul janaza for the head of the munafiqeen Abdullah bin Ubai as-Salul. Umar Al-Khattab protested this act. Rasulullah decided (for some reason of his own) to pray this janaza prayer. Days later, revelation came down disagreeing with this act of praying janaza for munafiqeen. This was another incident in which revelation had agreed with the opinion of 'Umar.
Abdullah bin Ubai's kafan was the shirt of Rasulullah as this was the request of Abdullah's son. However, not even the shirt of Rasulullah as his kafan would save him from the bottom pits of hellfire (the place for munafiqeen).
