You know how people tend to use brand names as equivalents of a certain thing?
Like "Pass me the Colgate" or "I would love some Panadol" even though it's not really colgate, just toothpaste in general or paracetamol in general.
Well it's the same in my hospital too. A bit annoying though. And I'm too embarrassed to ask what it is too.
First of all, they call cannulas "jelco" because that's the brand name. Most of us have never used or heard this term ever.
Since starting surgical term, I've been hearing
"His Jackson Pratt is draining bile"
"Does he need the Fisher-Paykel still?"
What the heck are they saying!?!?!?!? For the fear of appearing like an utter dimwit, I chose to find out what these things are by observation.
Okay, so Jackson Pratt is a tube that surgeons put in when they close up a wound so that excess fluids and blood can be drained.
I have still yet to discover what a Fisher-Paykel is. Yes I know it's a famous brand name for healthcare products but what do the nurses mean when they use that word??? Argh.

i rasa you kena buat glossary bagi memudahkan student-student yang akan bekerja kelak.
yeah we used the brands macam as if it is the generic name. colgate, kodak, xerox. lagi takleh fikir sebab dah ngantuk.
Milo, Nescafe (white coffee ada banyak brand), Pampers, Sanita hihihi
rusy- itu la. kalau dia ckp tube aje kan kita faham. hape2 ntah.
obe- yes it could be an incubator. but in adult surgical ward, i don't think that's what they mean.

i have a feeling fisher paykel is a oxygen humidifier or something. suspek aje nih. esok nak tanya je la nurse hahaha.

aset nama baik.
a bit annoying if other brands are actually equally good and if others use the brand as complete replacement of the actual item's noun
