First day

I'm attached to Trauma & Transplant for my surgical rotation. Some pros and cons about surgery in general:

Pros
1. Very short ward rounds - love 'em.. 15 patients today over in an hour. Contrast that to Gen Med ward rounds that lasted until 3pm. Yikes.
2. Surgeons are concise - when they take a history or present a case, they skimp on the details and just talk about the main points i.e. of surgical concern. No yadda yadda yadda on irrelevant things.
3. My team specifically takes the lift (Alhamdulillah!) even for 1 floor difference hehehehe. Contrast that to Medical team who took the stairs for 6 level differences uwaaaa my poor problematic knee.
4. Probably more satisfying career because you actually fix things instead of medicine where most of the work is guessing (diagnosing) what is wrong with the patient.

Cons
1. Because surgeons are concise, they (seem) cold, distant and unsympathetic to the patient while at the bedside. They rarely stop for a chat or wait to listen to what the patient (or other people for that matter) has to say
2. They are uncomfortable with emotions and tears
3. They start way too early.. 7am!?!? C'mon!!
4. They finish late too. Because they are in the theatres for most of the time, they (the consultants) only have free time to teach us in the evenings.

When we were in ICU this morning, we saw the ICU consultant and he was wearing HIGH HEEL BOOTS! OMG!!!! I coudn't stop giggling when my groupmate pointed it out to me. Upon closer inspection, he was also wearing woman-cut pants high up, a woman's jacket AND make up!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA ROTFL. Seriyesly tak tahan ketawa.

We said maybe he ran out of clothes and had to borrow his wife's clothes. Hahahaha.
Then when we left the ICU we heard the senior doctors talking about this fellow too.. hahaha. Turns out he always wears like that and the clothes are CUSTOM made. Maybe he is a cross dresser. Well, when you are that high up in the hierarchy (ICU plak tu), you can live by your quirky eccentric idiosyncrasies!
